How REDUCE-ALIVE is Applied
REDUCE-ALIVE is a two-week participatory process that develops local capacity to use computer models and to use data to create and implement advocacy actions. The process includes the following six steps:
- Form a multidisciplinary team of approximately 15 national health professionals, economists, demographers, sociologists, and others to engage in evidence-based advocacy formation.
- Collect and review existing local and international information
- Use computer models to estimate the consequences of poor maternal and newborn health and care (including newborn and maternal deaths, disabilities, and related productivity losses)
- Build consensus among team members on policy and program priorities and strategies
- Train the team to use computer models and create advocacy plans and to develop presentations with persuasive scripts
- Advocate with government officials and representatives from donor agencies, civil society, and the media.
During the workshop, participants develop an advocacy strategy and action plan to be implemented within the context of the national MNH plan.
