The West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) identified policy gaps and drafted three resolutions to improve maternal and neonatal health. WAHO used the REDUCE tool to develop an advocacy plan for having the ECOWAS health ministers adopt these draft resolutions. REDUCE determined that without additional investments in maternal and child health programs, the region would experience a $5 billion loss in productivity, while progressive policies and investments in maternal and child health interventions would augment economic growth by $2.5 billion. These messages convinced the ECOWAS health ministers to adopt the resolutions and implement them in countries.
